Stupidity = Injury…Who Knew?

"My mama always said, 'stupid is as stupid does'..." Forrest Gump

Okay, so, stupidity resulting in an injury isn’t probably that much of a shock. And yet, when it happens to me, it’s like…seriously?

After last Thursday’s awesome GTFG run, my foot was feeling a ‘little’ sore. But, being the super-human that I am (not) I told myself to just let it go and get over it. At the end of a particularly trying Memorial Day weekend (which included a blown tire on my daughter’s car, central air that needs to be replaced, and the loss of a long-time friend) I dared to ask, “what else can go wrong?” When I pushed a stack of boxes across my basement floor (because I was too stubborn to wait for help), I felt that all too familiar pain in my plantar tendon. Yup, messed it up again.

I had to tell the rest of GTFG that I wouldn’t be running on Tuesday. Matter of fact, I took the whole week off. The foot is feeling better. I’m even thinking that I’ll attempt a ‘little’ run next Tuesday.

But, it’s nice to know that my teammates miss me! I bumped into Mel after her run today and she’d left a “Came to visit. We missed u!” note on my desk. Thanks, Mel! A little while into the afternoon, an email came from Lynn, “You need to get your foot well for next Tuesday, because . . . Mel is kicking my a@$%$!”

Awww…feel the love. I miss you too, ladies. Like I said, it’s been a trying weekend/week. I’m so glad to have my team to keep me going. :)

Over the weekend, my friend (my 'other brother' and HS prom date) Jeff was taken from us in a senseless act of random violence. Today, I checked out Jeff’s obituary online, and something made me chuckle…on the right side of Jeff’s obit was a link to another story, “No charges for man caught masturbating at Wal Mart”. Hmmm... I can't help but think that Jeff would have found that EXTREMELY funny! RIP, brother. You will be missed.

That is all…

Said, seen and heard on the run today...

We took a new route today. Through downtown, over by the lake:

Random woman walking past us, mumbling, "...and that produced a demon..." Mel kept running. Lynn and I lost it and had to stop to laugh.

"You know what I hate? After a 5K when some old guy comes right up against you and he's all sweaty and you feel his sweaty chest hairs on your arm...I'm like shave that stuff off!"

"Ew. Naked guy."

"My butt still hurts."

"C'mon, Mel, we'll follow your ass for a little while."

"Lynn is the skinny exclamation point."

"Ya see...this is why I run with you guys...it's therapy."

"We need to start a blog..."

"When you run past a place where people are eating, they look at you like, "that's what I should be doing"...they avert their eyes." "Yeah, I've noticed that with smokers, too." "They're probably thinking about what their doctor told them how they should lose weight, eat better, stop smoking." "Actually, they're probably thinking, "BITCHES". :)

That is all.

How it all began...

Welcome to Go Team Fat Girls! This blog is about three friends (Lisa, Lynn and Mel) who are RWC (Running While Chunky) in an effort to shed some pounds, gain some cardio and maybe have some fun.

It all began...with an email:

"I'm signing up to run the 1 mile Grand Blue Mile Street Run. It is the evening of April 20th. I was thinking we could hang out after work and then see if Lynn can run 1 mile without stroking."

So, we signed up, and began meeting twice a week to run/walk. In 4 weeks, we were ready for a trial 1 mile run. We ran the route of the race...1 mile without stopping. After we finished, we high-fived each other and said, "Not bad for a couple of fat girls." Which planted the seed for our team name.

The following week, Lynn and I ran in the 'race' and finished (without stopping) in 12:12. Lynn said, "I think we should keep running each week." "Me too!" I said. Done deal.

Enter Mel. A couple of weeks after the run, I ran into Mel and Sheila at the Farmer's Market. I hadn't seen Mel for a while and I told her that Lynn and I were running a couple of times per week and she should join us. Join us she did.

The following Tuesday, the three of us went for our first run. We ran. We walked. We sweated. And most of all we laughed...a LOT. Our team was complete.

"Go Team Fat Girls" brought to you by Ibuprofen...our official team sponsor. LOL

That is all.
